This next painting is based on a photo we took several years ago on a trip to wine country. I'm enjoying this painting so much I already have the next fountain painting in mind.
This time in the studio I'm going to try weekly updates. My paintings don't really progress in steps, so I thought maybe a chronological update would be better.
Well, I'm already behind in keeping the website updated (life has been very full lately), but here is the painting almost half complete.
This painting is 10" x 14" and is full of detail. In each section I am working light to dark with the deepest shadows being the final step. The exception is the dark shadaow behind the fountain. This area I first painted dark with grey green, neutral tint and sap green , then scraped out the branches. Then I repeated the process the get layers of branches in the shadows.
Most of my time the last couple weeks has been devoted to the body of the fountain. It's been a slow process on this painting. Mainly because my time has been split between painting and doing other things associated with painting, like preparation of submittals.
